Shtetl Philly is a collective of artists & scholars interested in Yiddish culture, art, music, dance, theater, and language. We host peer-lead participatory workshops and performances.

About the event
All workshops will run on Thursday evenings at Kol Tzedek: March 27, April 10, 17, 24. We will also have an optional end-of-class showing in the evening of Saturday April 26th to share our work with the wider community.
Participants are welcome to take 2 non-conflicting workshops and will receive a discount if they do! You can register for a workshop if you will have to miss a class, but please communicate this to the workshop leaders.

Workshop 1: Yiddish Gesture, Yiddish Dance (led by Maddie Rabin)
Exploring how Yiddish speaking gesture shows up in Yiddish dance, and how Yiddish dancing gesture shows up in the bodies of Yiddish speakers. We’ll look at posture, head tilt, hand movement, arm placement, body alignment of Yiddish dancers and speakers to build a vocabulary of gesture for dancing.
Workshop 2: Learn Tunes by Ear! (led by Daniel Stern and Brian Dolphin)
