VIRTUAL Yiddish Dance classes with Steve Weintraub at Yiddish NY

With restrictions on gathering in groups, we have a unique opportunity to focus on encountering and refining our individual dancing. This class will treat improvisational solo and couple dancing to klezmer music as an expressive language.  With a playful approach, the class will explore the vocabulary, syntax, grammar, and typical figures and idioms of Jewish dancing to klezmer. We’ll look at other improvised couple and solo dances for inspiration, including Black American social dancing, and other vernacular non-contact couple dances in order to allow the dancing to feel contemporary and not archaic.  We might even slip in some percussive dance aspects.
